Galafrey 2011 Dry Grown Merlot
Colour: Deep dense colour of dark plum.
Aroma: Plums, mulberries, spice, blackcurrant, leather.
Palate: Tight and tannic wine with nicely focused varietal fruit well integrated with chocolaty oak. Good backbone of fine tannins. Has cellaring potential. Beautiful sweet red berry and slightly perfumed aromas. The palate is supple and succulent with quite delicious sweet fruit. Fine grained tannins and attractive integrated oak.
A dry spring was followed by a relatively dry and hot early summer. Significant precipitation in January easing heat/water stress. A warm dry weather returned in February and continued until harvest. These ideal autumn conditions and cool nights allowed late ripening Merlot to excel. The wines are richly concentrated with abundant ripe tannins.
