The Little Wine Co is a partnership of two winemakers, Ian and Suzanne Little. Between them they have more than 50 years of winemaking experience.
Our vineyards are all organic, having been converted in 2003. In the vineyard we use competitive biology, aiming to be completely chemical free in dry years and using half the organic standard of copper and sulphur in wet years.
Greenock Shiraz is a single vineyard wine produced from low yielding Shiraz vines on the Kalleske estate at Greenock, in the North-Western Barossa Valley. Cuttings for these vines originate from a vineyard planted on the property in the late 1800s. Today, sixth and seventh generation family members meticulously tend the vines. Traditional winemaking and eighteen months maturation in American and French oak hogsheads has ensured a complex, full-bodied Shiraz which will reward long term cellaring. Greenock Shiraz is a true family estate wine - grown, vintaged and matured on the Kalleske estate.
Sourced from the foothills of Mt Canoolas, Orange at an altitude of 880 meters above sea level, these vineyards have extremely fertile soil, rich in volcanic ash. It is deep well drained clay loam, and red and brown ferrosol soils derived from basalt, with silty textures being found at hill top sites.
No shortage of rich dark fruits in this powerful Merlot. It shows that this variety in the right places can be a good straight varietal wine. Love the seamless, smooth textured palate and the deeply concentrated flavours. They are beautifully held with ripe fine tannins and excellent oak integration.

A stunning white variety originating from Campania in Southern Italy. With low yielding vines, smaller bunches and berries, this variety is heat tolerant, with high disease resistance and higher natural acid.
In 1853 Karl Heinrich ‘Eduard’ Kalleske and his three siblings together with their parents Johann Georg and Johanne Dorothea migrated from Prussia. They landed in the newly established colony of South Australia and in 1853 they settled at Greenock in the North-Western Barossa Valley and established our Kalleske farm. Eduard and his wife Anna ‘Rosina’ worked the Kalleske vineyard until the 1880s when their son took over the reins. Today six generations later those old vines are still prospering, thanks to the foresight and hard work of our ancestors. We dedicate this wine to Eduard which is from a selection of old vine Shiraz vineyards planted on our Kalleske property between 1905 to 1971. Hand winemaking and two year hogshead maturation has resulted in a stunning old vine wine destined for long term cellaring.
